Butterfly Kits for Home Crafts and School Activities

By: Lee Walder

Do you know what a butterfly kit consists of, and how to use them?
I think that the majority of children would be interested in 'growing their own butterflies' and I believe that many adults would probably be interested as well. (At this point, I just have to throw my hands up without any more thought). A butterfly kit will make it easy to experience the fun of raising butterflies either at school or at home. Several butterflies may be kept alive in a little enclosure, and it isn't necessary for you to be a biologist. And no specialized tools or equipment are necessary. It is very simple because all that you will really need is sugar.
Let us have a look at all what a butterfly kit comprises of.
There are a number of suppliers out there who provide butterfly kits, but in general, they are almost identical in what they provide:
Instructions, Housing of some sort, Feeder, Caterpillars, Pot of food
Each manufacturer offer somewhat different housing. The card can either be made of clear plastic or a type of mesh fabric. It doesn't really matter how it is built. What each one of them offers is a way of holding emerging butterflies safely, as well as a clear view of what is going on inside.
There will be a wide variety of feeder features when you compare different company designs. It may be a dropper or pipette, or it could be something like a cotton bud to hang on to the liquid. Remember that it is not crucial information, and the details that were provided are sufficient.
If you get you kit home just remember that catipillars are not provided with most kits. You can request your caterpillars using the coupon that is provided. We have varying reasons for this, the main reason being that you are ready to receive and care for the caterpillars. If you have to leave for two weeks just when the caterpillars arrive, that will do you no good! This way you can make plans in advance and be sure that you will have an appropriate length of time available before you place your order. A lot of suppliers allow you to choose the dates in which the caterpillars are to be sent.
The only required provision for the caterpillar is a pot of food.
In fact, almost anything can be harmful to the health of your livestock, so take care.
When you get your butterfly kit make sure to read the instructions provided, they will tell you excatly what to do and when.
How can using a butterfly kit benefit you?
The supplies will permit you to track the journey of the butterfly, from caterpillar to the cocoon stage, from the cocoon to butterfly – which takes place in about three to five weeks.
It is an amazing trip for many children (correct, and grown-ups) to create happiness and special memories. The butterflies supplied have a breeding season that runs from March through September, so you may repeat the process as many times as you want during that time frame. The most supplied butterfly is the Painted Lady.
It isn't necessary to purchase a new butterfly kit each time. You can use the housing again, simply reordering new caterpillars, which makes it an economical exercise to repeat. Keep in mind that you should release the butterflies after watching them for a few days. As a reward butterflies will stay in your garden for a couple of days the more array of flowers the better. Letting butterflies go near your home won't cause any disturbance to the environment because their species is already so common.
It doesn't matter if you don't have a garden or if you live in an area that's not flat. Acquiring food finds butterflies traveling hundreds of miles fortunately, flying comes easy to them.
So there it is; a butterfly kit and how to use them. I'm sure you will get as much enjoyment from it as I did.
